Earliest mention of Major & Darker, Plymouth I have found is in the Western Daily Press, Bristol, 20 January 1897 advertisement for a smart portrait canvasser (possibly someone going door to door trying to 'drum up' business) one aspect was canvassing for photographic Christmas cards Royal Cornwall Gazette, 21 December 1905.   Latest mention of the firm I have found is 13 February 1909 Western Daily Press, Bristol.
